Preps begin for USA Pro Cycling Challenge

BRECKENRIDGE - In a little more than two weeks, the best bike racers in the world will be competing on Colorado roads in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge - battling through big cities and small mountain towns and bringing in hundreds of thousands of fans.

The race will go through several communities. But, on Aug. 27, it hits Summit County on a Saturday.

Having the race in addition to their already busy summer weekends means even bigger crowds. Police and organizers are already preparing. Many roads and even Highway 6 will be closed at times during the day, greatly impacting drivers. So, Breckenridge Assistant Police Chief Gregg Morrison says arriving early and well ahead of competitors is the only way to make sure you'll have a good seat to watch the racing.

The Twitter airwaves were alive with reactions to Thursday’s surprise announcement that HTC-Highroad would fold at the end of the 2011 season.
