In Pittsburgh it is very common to find nice natural stone even marble, slate and no-wax vinyl floors covered in wax. Wax should never but put on stone of any kind if it is in a home. Many products you find at Home Depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart say they are safe for marble and slate but in fact are just cheep low grade (not even pro level) wax. It’s true they wont ruin the stone but it will create a maintenance nightmare. It is a very costly mistake and we want to help you avoid it. Don’t put wax on your floor if you want it to look shiny. Natural stone needs polished not waxed. Also some waxes masquerade as a sealer so be careful. Even worse a trusted tile installer or stone company may try to sell you a product that in the end my just be just be an acrylic wax marketed as a sealer. If you see the words polish in the marketing on the product its probably wax.
