Surprised by ski conditions...

Sure we have not had a big snow storm since Halloween (and you haven't had to shovel either) but there is skiing in the mountains. March and April can be New England's snowiest months. So don't give up the great white hope, put on your snow dance pants

Everybody's dressed for the cold, with face masks and snow pants. They're wearing crash helmets and ski goggles. Claud Morin from Montreal has been out checking the ice. "Of course we always prefer like a very smooth ice," he tells me.

Ski school proves to be a hit

bumps in the road - besides the frost heaves passing by the Presidentials - were reserved for a father who grabbed the wrong bag out of the car in a race to get him to his appointment on time, and leaving his helmet, gloves, and ski pants behind.

Question about ski pants.........................................?

Q: I've had my eye on a certain Columbia ski pants that I found online. But I've been reading reviews that Columbia pants usually run really big. I'm 5'2 and 110 lbs. Do you think getting an extra small (xs) would still be too big and long for me?

A: i am 5'6" man and wear a men's small columbia titanium line ski pants.

When walking with normal shoes there is about 2-3inches too long that would drag on the ground. When wearing ski boots though this is fine since the boot raises you up about that much and will stay on the shell.

Good hiking/mountaineering pants?

Q: I need a good pair of pants that can be used in cold temperatures for hiking/climbing, usually in snow. This is a harder thing to find than I thought. Should they be definitely waterproof or just resistant?
I've found these two, which is better and why?

A: I would say that neither of those is a great choice for mountaineering. One is for crag climbing and has a DWR coating on canvas, which will not keep you dry in the mountains, even in cold snow. The other is a ski pant that is way too warm and probably not very breathable, which will cause you to overheat and be miserable.

Police Blotter

Police are looking for two men who reportedly robbed three teens at the Columbia County Amphitheater last weekend.

Two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, all of Martinez, told police that around 11:30 p.m. July 17 they were seated on the stage when two men wearing white T-shirts and black shorts approached them. One of the men walked away. The other, wearing a ski mask and holding one hand inside his pants pocket as if he had a gun, grabbed one of the girls' leg and said, "Don't make me do this."

The man then grabbed two of the girls' purses and slowly walked away.
